“My flight landed at 2 AM and I was worried no one would show up. Mahesh was right there with my name on a sign, smiling. The drive to Ahangama was smooth, he had cold water in the car, and he helped find a good ATM on the way. Above and beyond.”

“Mahesh organized a safari to Yala for our family and we spotted a leopard on the first morning! He knows exactly which guides to book and which hotels along the way are family-friendly. Our kids still talk about it. Worth every rupee.”

Travel Tips & FAQ

Everything You Need to Know

Tips from Mahesh and hundreds of travelers before you.

Just send Mahesh a WhatsApp message with your dates and he'll confirm availability. He delivers the scooter directly to your hotel or guesthouse. You'll need to bring your passport for a quick ID check. No deposit needed — it's all based on trust. Pay in cash (LKR) when you pick up.
Technically, you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) with a motorcycle endorsement, which you should get in your home country before traveling. In practice, many travelers ride without one, but police checkpoints do happen (especially around Galle and Mirissa) and the fine is around 3,000–5,000 LKR. Mahesh always recommends getting your IDP to be safe.
The South Coast roads are generally good and well-paved. The key things to remember: drive on the left side, watch for dogs and tuk-tuks, use your horn at blind corners, and avoid riding at night if you can. Mahesh provides helmets and will brief you on local road rules. Start slow — after a day you'll feel comfortable.
Share your flight number and arrival time on WhatsApp. Mahesh (or his trusted driver) will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign that has your name on it. The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to Ahangama takes about 3–3.5 hours via the Southern Expressway. The car has AC, and you can make stops along the way if needed.
You can buy a tourist SIM card (Dialog or Mobitel) right at the airport for about 1,500 LKR with data included. In Ahangama, there are ATMs at the Commercial Bank and BOC near the main road. Pro tip: always carry some cash — many small restaurants and beach shops don't accept cards. Mahesh can point you to the nearest ATM.
The dry season runs from November to April — this is peak time with warm weather and great surf. The shoulder months (October and May) offer fewer crowds and lower prices with still-decent weather. June to September is monsoon season with more rain, but it's not constant and you'll have the beaches almost to yourself.
Absolutely. Mahesh can arrange private car tours to Ella (the famous train ride, Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam's Peak), Kandy (Temple of the Tooth, botanical gardens), Sigiriya, and anywhere else on the island. He'll help with hotel bookings along the way too. Multi-day tours are priced per day and include the car, driver, and fuel. Just tell him your interests and he'll create a custom itinerary.
Light, breathable clothing (it's tropical!), reef-safe sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a light rain jacket, and comfortable sandals. If you're surfing, bring your own rash guard — board rentals are easy to find. For temple visits you'll need clothes that cover your knees and shoulders. And don't worry about overpacking — Mahesh offers laundry service too!
Yes! If you're staying for a week or more, Mahesh offers discounted rates. The longer you rent, the better the daily price. Just message him on WhatsApp with your dates and he'll give you a custom quote. Monthly rentals are especially popular with digital nomads and long-term surfers.
